Property Description

Isla Tintorera | Private Island for Sale on Panama's Pacific Coast

Isla Tintorera sits off the southern point of Isla Cébaco, where the Gulf of Montijo meets the open Pacific. It is a private island of almost ten hectares, and it has never been developed. Forest covers most of the land, black volcanic rock lines the edges, and a series of small white-sand coves opens onto clear turquoise water.

Getting there is easy. Santa Catalina, the departure point for Coiba National Park, is under 45 minutes away by boat, and the mainland ports of Montijo and Mariato are also within reach. Once you arrive, there are no neighbours and no development nearby, only the sea around you.

Land and landscape

Tropical forest covers about 70–80% of the island. The ground climbs gradually from the shore to a high point of roughly 45 metres above sea level, with long views over the Pacific and back toward Cébaco. The softer slopes in the middle of the island are natural candidates for future homes or lodges. The coves sit between basalt outcrops and palm trees, and live coral grows just off the beach in shallow, calm water.

Water

Springs run on the hillside during the season. A hydrogeological inspection in 2019 confirmed potential for potable groundwater from a well on the island's middle and upper ground, enough to supply a private residence or small retreat. For a larger hospitality project, desalination would provide a reliable supply at whatever scale is needed.

Marine setting

Tintorera is part of the marine region centred on Coiba National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Panama's anchor in the Eastern Tropical Pacific Marine Corridor, which also includes Cocos Island, Malpelo, Gorgona and the Galápagos. Sea turtles and reef fish live on the coral close to shore. Dolphins can be seen year-round, humpback whales migrate past from July to October, and the Gulf of Montijo is an important habitat for young sharks.

Sport fishing

Good fishing begins right off the island. A nearby rock pinnacle rising from deep water holds tuna, snapper, wahoo and mahi-mahi. About 50 nautical miles out is Hannibal Bank, a seamount west of Coiba with a reputation among serious anglers for black marlin, sailfish and yellowfin tuna.

The opportunity

Tintorera would suit a private fishing retreat, a boutique eco-lodge, or a family island kept for future generations. Islands with this combination of size, beaches, fresh-water potential and proximity to Coiba rarely come to market.
